According to Melissa Parkinson, ER Manager at RRH, it is essential that anyone who has symptoms of a stroke or who witnesses a person exhibiting symptoms of a stroke gets help right away by calling 911 and going to the Emergency Department. Melissa stated that “With a stroke, the sooner that treatment begins the better the chances are for survival and recovery. Our hospital adheres to the ‘Golden Hour’ of acute ischemic stroke treatment. We are prepared to assess, evaluate and treat within 60 minutes. The RRH Emergency Department follows the most recent national guidelines for stroke and works in conjunction with San Joaquin Community Hospital Stroke Center to rapidly identify and treat patients suffering from a stroke. RRH has a partnership with the closest stroke centers and has 24 hour neurology consult available.”

The medication used to treat an ischemic stroke is very powerful so a complete history of current medications and medical history is essential. Always keep an updated list of your medications and medical history with you.
