What can we do to Help those in our Community?

Many of you may have or know someone with autism and you would like more information and resources. That is where Ridgecrest Autism Awareness (RAA) comes in: RAA is a local non-profit organization committed to providing education and support to families of special-needs children, and to educating the local community to increase understanding and awareness in order to ensure a brighter future for these children.

Ridgecrest Autism Awareness was founded in 2013 by a handful of local families with the initial goal of bringing an educational conference to Ridgecrest in order to educate the local community about Autism. “We felt if we could educate the community about what Autism is and what it looks like in daily life for these families, then we, as a community, would be that much stronger and on a better path toward acceptance, understanding and inclusion,” according to Cherish Rindt, President of Ridgecrest Autism Awareness. In April of 2013 RAA held a dinner and auction fundraiser in hopes of raising enough money to pay for an educational conference, scheduled for November of that same year. “We were astounded by the outpouring of love and support from our community — that first fundraiser brought in more that $20,000 for the cause!”

The first educational conference entitled “Autism and The Community” was held in November of 2013 with over 200 community members in attendance. The RAA team quickly realized that with this kind of community support, they would be able to expand their support and services for the families and the community. With the support and donations from its many community partners, RAA now provides many educational and socialization opportunities for families of children with special needs.
